How Many Beads Do I Need
Before people worry about color details, they often want to know how many beads they need. That question is tied directly to pattern size.

Start with board size
The simplest calculation is based on grid dimensions. A 29 x 29 pattern uses 841 beads, while a 58 x 58 pattern uses 3364.
As the board gets larger, both the total count and the color distribution become more complex.
Then check color distribution
The total bead count tells you the overall quantity, while the per-color breakdown tells you what to buy or prepare.
If one color only appears a few times, you may not need a full extra pack, but high-share colors should be prepared early.
Why material counts matter
Kawaii Haul automatically counts each color after generation, which is more reliable than estimating by eye.
Reviewing the material panel before export helps reduce rework when you print or start laying beads.
Frequently asked questions
Is total bead count just width times height?
Yes. For a standard single-layer pattern, the total bead count is usually the grid width multiplied by the grid height.
Why do I still need a color breakdown?
Because total count tells you how many beads you need overall, but not how many of each color you should prepare.
